Hi my name is Steve Hewitt, I'm a singer/songwriter and acoustic guitar player.
My first love of music came when I first listened to the bright simplistic yet creative sound of buddy holly, I loved the way he was so different from the rest of the rock n rollers of the 50s. I listened to buddy's music for upto a year and suddenly just listening to music wasn't enough, so that's when I got my first guitar!
I was 14 and it didn't take me long to learn the basic chords. I remember playing in the garden shed with the extension lead wire poking through the shed door so I could plug in my little amp, I'd been playing and singing buddy's songs for hours when the sound coming from the shed had taken its tole on my parents and suddenly the extension lead was turned off (LOL) my playing and singing was quite terrible in those days.
I listened to the same music until I was 15-16, then I was introduced to David Gray's album White ladder, which changed the way I felt about music altogether. It was the summer of 2000 and there was a lot of great music being born on the radio, and there was a sense of excitement in the air about it! At that time I was working for my Dad, he had a maintenance business, and we was working in a place called latchindon in Essex at the Time, and as the sun was zapping the strength from our body's As we was working in its heat, I heard an earthy rustic vocal bellowing out a chorus I couldn't quite make out the lyrics too, but I instantly fell in love with the melody, the song was babylon, and for ages I didn't know what he was singing in the chorus, so me and my Dad would be singing any random thing in the van on our way to work in the morning (LOL).
I loved David Grays music so much that once I heard white ladder I needed to buy all of his albums. After a while I was intrigued as to who inspired DG, so I started to do my research! I found out He loved - the Smiths, Madness and Van Morrison but the one that caught my attention was Bob Dylan. It wasn't the way he played guitar or sang, it was what he had to say!
His lyrics transfixed me, I was on the edge of my seat anticipating at what he had to say next. It was because of David Gray and Bob Dylan that I became obsessed with words. I've gone on now to listen to artists like - Fink, John Legend, Ray Lamontagne, Ben Howard, Royal Blood, John Mayer, James Blunt, James Morrison, James Vincent McMorrow, Iron and Wine etc.
So all of these artist have inspired me to work hard for my own sound and made me realise that to be successful I need to sing from my heart and write from my soul. So here is my debut 4 track EP, Songs that range from life experiences — to What I think love is.
Thanks for taking the time to have a look round my website. Peace
